Doom: Annihilation was released direct-to-video on Octoto mixed reviews and earned $76,703 in domestic video sales. The project was announced in April 2018, with principal photography commencing soon afterward, and ending in June, with additional photography following in early 2019. The success of the 2016 video game convinced Universal to proceed, and commission a script from Giglio. Giglio pitched his idea for a new film to Universal in 2015, but was initially turned down. In the film, marines battle demon-like creatures in a facility on Phobos, who have emerged from ancient teleportation devices known as "Gates". The film stars Amy Manson, Dominic Mafham, Luke Allen-Gale, and Nina Bergman. It is a reboot based on id Software's Doom franchise and is the second live-action film after Doom (2005). Even with that, though the future seems wider than ever in a post- Eternal world, the series may never get the cinematic entry it deserves unless the source material is properly appreciated.Doom: Annihilation is a 2019 American science fiction action film written and directed by Tony Giglio. The fact that the franchise returned from the dead in 2016 was something of a miracle. It may all be a pipe dream at the end of the day, but if there's one thing Doom fans can do besides slaughter demons, it's dealing with longshot odds. Kong should show why he's more than qualified for the part. His résumé includes the newer God of War titles, The Walking Dead and many more, and his track "Tasman Sea" for Godzilla vs. If there's anyone working in Hollywood who would be perfect for the score for a new Doom movie, it'd be the perennially underappreciated Bear McCreary. Since the beginning of the series, the Doom games have been beloved for their incredible music, and that goes double for the first and most recent entries. ![]() But they can be safely ignored when talking about a series where one of the difficultly settings is "Ultra Violence."īut on top of nailing the director and cast, there is another important thing to remember: the score. As happened with that film, there will also be those who insist the gore be toned down. Also, consider that the movie should star a single actor as Doomguy, making his way through the Mars facility in a manner similar to 2012's Judge Dredd. In a world where Henry Cavill exists, it's not a stretch to imagine plenty of actors from the AAA level down who play video games, including Doom, and who would savor the chance to give the series a better adaptation. This passion would ideally extend to the actors. Director Duncan Jones had long wanted to work on the project and put great effort into doing justice to that movie's version of its series' lore. The Warcraft movie was not perfect, but it is the highest-grossing video game adaptation for a reason. ![]() Accepting the hypothetical that Universal wants to take another shot at a Doom movie, there are certain things they will need to do, and the first is to find a director who is both passionate and qualified. ![]()
